I am not sure if you will see this and maybe I can help you in your current anguish. I am the parent of an abused child so yes, I understand your pain but my pain is also doubled sided for the offender is also my child. My boy 13 molested his sister 6 and the emotions that I feel are overwhelming. It seems that society likes to send the public mixed messages. In one instance they are saying that they are children in the same breath they are convicting them of murder intentional or unintentional. My approach to this is that they know right from wrong at that age unless they have a mental defect. Even my son knew he was in the wrong. This makes it more difficult for me in the long run. I want to see him punished but I also want to see in helped in someway... for me I need to know why! I am not only upset with him but also with the person that had done this to my son. He created a cycle that I am trying to break. I am learning more about treatment for children and their rates. I reside in Oregon and they do not do treatment for anyone 16 and older. I was informed by the prosecuter that behavior is set by that age and the turn around rate is so low that they will not foot the bill on anyone above 15. Now I have therapy for my baby girl, therapy for the rest of the family, therapy for my son, court for my son ... the works. Let me address the statement regarding the treatment faucilty. Yes it may seem that they are treated as kings but is from the outside looking in. Three meals are the basic needs... the rest is to help them feel comfortable with the environment so they can begin treatment. I know does not sound like much but they have nothing either. This situation is a lose lose in the end.
