This is a lovely story, but I found it ironic that it uses the term "at risk kids" in the headline, when in another story in your current newsletter (Of Math, Middle School & Social Justice) the CFK interviewer asks the teacher of the year: "There's a term used by people who work with low-income children in challenging situations—"at risk"—that has become a negative label. But I get the sense that you see your students, not as "at risk," but as delightful. What would it take to get more people to share that view, to really start off assuming the best rather than the worst about low-income, minority adolescents?"
