On August 16, 1906, W.E.B. DuBois addressed the second annual meeting of the Niagara Movement, an organization of Black men fighting for equal rights. DuBois addressed the need for education reform, stating that the school districts in the South are a disgrace and that real education leads to "the development of power and ideal."
