Technical Help


Requirements

The CFK Web site has been designed to work with the latest browsers from Internet Explorer [5] and Mozilla [6].

To access all of the content available on our site you may also need these additional plug-ins:

• Macromedia Flash [7]: Flash allows you to experience animation and entertainment on the Web in a bandwidth friendly manner.

• Windows Media Player [8]: Windows Media Player plays various media files.

• Adobe Acrobat [9]: This application/plug-in allows users to view PDF files, which is a common format for documents.


Email a Page

To email a page click the "email this page" link found at the bottom of most pages on this site. Fill out the form with your name, the recipient email address, and an optional personal message.

The recipient will receive an email with your name in the subject. The body of the email will contain a link to the page, a description of the page, and any personal message.


Add a Comment

To add a comment click the "add new comment" link found at the bottom of many pages on this site. You have the option of leaving your name, your email, and/or a URL. Enter in the subject and body of your comment. Click the "preview" button. Once you have previewed the comment and made any changes click the "post" button.


RSS

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content, such as news headlines. Using an RSS reader [10], you can view data feeds from various news sources, such as connectforkids.org, including headlines, summaries, links to full stories.

To view one of the CFK feeds in your RSS Aggregator:

1. Copy the URL/shortcut that corresponds to the topic that interests you. You can find this URL by clicking on the XML icon found on many CFK pages, often at the bottom.

2. Paste the URL into your reader.


Background

This website runs on many open-source technologies, including Linux [11], Apache [12], MySQL [13], and PHP [14].

Content on this site is managed by Drupal, a free open-source CMS [15].
