Thursday's Child: Dads and HusbandsMay 11 2006 - 9:00am May 11 2006 - 10:30am Etc/GMT+5 Dads and Husbands: Promoting Child Well-Being Through Father Involvement and Marriage Programs is co-sponsored by Chapin Hall Center for Children and the Urban Institute, and will take place in Washington, DC: The Urban Institute A major impetus behind support for marriage enhancement and promotion programs is the fact that children in married two-parent families do better on a host of outcomes than children in other living arrangements. The federal Healthy Marriage Initiative has attracted much interest of late, in part because of February's reauthorization of the Temporary Assistance for Need Families program. But increased interest in those programs has shifted attention away from efforts promoting the involvement of fathers in their families. With research suggesting the transition into a married family can be disruptive for children not living with their married parents, father involvement programs may be a more viable way of improving the well-being of children. The panelists will discuss father involvement and marriage promotion programs and address how each might help at-risk families. Panelists include: Gregory Acs, Senior Research Associate, Income and Benefits Policy Center at the Urban Institute Register online. |
