Understanding Poverty:The Role of Philanthropy in Meeting the Needs of Vulnerable Working Families

The Grantmakers for Children, Youth and Families (GCYF) are holding an important meeting at the Skillman Foundation in Detroit, Michigan, to learn how addressing poverty can strengthen philanthropy’s response to the needs of vulnerable working families.

Meeting Objectives

• Describe who is impacted by poverty and the unique challenges it poses for them.

• Describe the underlying causes of poverty and the linkage of these issues to other challenges facing children, youth and families.

• Identify promising and effective grantmaking strategies that can be applied to address the issues.

• Recognize funding challenges in this arena and identify ways to address them.

• Identify opportunities for collaboration to address specific issues.
