Habitat for Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to volunteer to build houses together in partnership with families in need. The Points of Light Neighboring Program strengthens networks in tough neighborhoods through volunteering so children and their families thrive. The FamilyCares program, an initiative of the Points of Light Foundation, helps to promote compassion through hands-on family projects that help others in need. Points of Light increases the number of youth and families volunteering together to better their communities. Big Brothers Big Sisters' vision is to provide a mentor for every child who needs or wants one. The America's Promise network works to ensure that every young person has access to caring adults, safe places, a healthy start, marketable skills and an opportunity to serve in their community. The California Mentor Coalition provides funding, training, quality assurance standards, and technology support to more than 350 mentor programs. CMF believes that mentoring is the most effective means of preventing at-risk youth from making poor choices. |
