ParentingTeensOnline is a free monthly e-magazine for parents of teens ages 12-19. It offers practical, expert-guided advice and support on teen health, media and technology, drugs/alcohol, education, volunteering, sports, social issues, babysitting, sexuality ... and more. Parents can learn what's happening before they need to know it's happening. The site has a variety of interactive features, including as Ask An Expert (advisory board members respond to parent questions) and polls.

In the second of a new series of panel discussions on positive youth development models, five panelists discussed the issues facing certain populations of young people as they make the transition to independent living as adults.
Marshall Brain's The Teenager's Guide to the Real World provides honest and practical information about the facts of life-from the costs of life to the reality of careers to the commitment of love and marriage. The author provides logical guidelines based on these facts as well as inspirational advice in achieving success.
Reviving Ophelia, by Mary Pipher, Ph.D., is subtitled "Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls." It is a good book for parents of growing daughters, the daughters themselves, and anyone who has ever known young girls.
As a pediatrician specializing in the treatment of family violence, Dr. Eli Newberger studies the character of boys and the ways weparents, caregivers, communitiescan help them develop into emotionally strong and healthy men. Guest reviewer Julie Ann Moylan reviews his book, The Men They Will Become.
The number of children with a parent behind bars has soared to over 2 million in recent years. A small but growing number of programs are addressing the problem of how to keep parent-child relationships alive through the years of incarceration. Chris Dickon reports on one, the Messages Project in Virginia.

On March 30, the Index on the well-being of American children will be released. Based on nearly thirty years of data from national surveys of child well-being, defined by factors including mortality, poverty, and suicide rates; drug use; educational test scores; health insurance coverage; and crimes committed by children, the index contains information on how children are faring now and how their status has changed in recent years.

Moreover, the critical link between a college education and future economic success has actually grown in the last several decades.
