One of my great pleasures as an editor is to periodically "surf the sites" in child advocacy. I often find what to me, at least, are fresh stories of good works and good results that serve as an inspiration for my work at Child Advocacy 360 and Connect for Kids. Risk and Protective Factors of Pennsylvania�s Youth

Pennsylvania Partnerships for Children finds that many teens feel unrecognized and unsupported by their teachers and parents. A survey of sixth, eighth, tenth and twelfth graders found that 45 percent feel they�re not praised by teachers for good work, that their teachers do not tell parents about good work, and that they do not feel safe in school. A third of young respondents said they don�t feel strong enough family attachments to share thoughts and feelings with parents.

The Fall 2005 issue of the Philadelphia Public School Notebook includes in-depth coverage of the situation of out-of-school youth in the city. Through interviews with 50 out-of-school youth and articles in English and Spanish, the issue covers topics like data shortfalls, zero tolerance, financial incentive structures, early intervention strategies, and the special circumstances affecting young people aging out of foster care and those who are pregnant and parenting.
