Education, Field ReportsCFK Reports From: The Economic Promise of Investing in High-Quality Preschool: Using Early Education to Improve Economic Growth and the Fiscal Sustainability of States and the Nation Believing that early childhood education does more than prepare kids for kindergarten, an organization of business leaders, the Committee for Economic Development (CED), made the economic case for publicly funded high-quality universal preschool for all kids through their report, The Economic Promise of Investing in High-Quality Preschool. CFK Reports From: Keeping Our Edge: Americans Speak on Education and Competitiveness In this briefing, the Educational Testing Service (ETS) presented the results of its sixth annual nationwide poll of the public's views on the role of education reform in supporting American competitiveness. Lee of Northwestern University started off by discussing how research perspectives can distort our understanding of black student achievement and competence. Too often, said Lee, black experience is perceived as "a deficit that educators have to overcome." Grover J. Whitehurst, the Director of Institute of Education Sciences, and Acting Commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics presented the report, which is mandated by congress and is due June 1, of every year. CFK reports from: The Brookings Institution The results of a wide-ranging survey on youth and religion were released today. The report, “OMG! How Generation Y is Redefining Faith in the iPod Era,” compares and contrasts the religious identities of 18- to 25-year-old Catholics, Protestants, Jews and Muslims. The survey was conducted with 1385 total respondents; Muslim, Jewish, Asian, African American and Hispanic youth were oversampled to achieve more accurate results. |
