Kids & Community, Field ReportsCFK Reports From: Summer Food Service Program Food Tasting Fair As summer approaches, many parents are asking themselves this question: "Will my child have enough healthy food to eat this summer?" CFK reports from: Child Well-Being: Their Present, Our Future Members from non-profit organizations and government agencies gathered at an annual policy seminar conducted by The Alliance for Youth to discuss the latest data on child well-being and how this data should be used to inform federal policy in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The briefing was to discuss the biennial release of America's Children: Key National Indicators of Child Well-Being, a compilation of statistics gathered by a collaboration of 20 agencies collectively known as the Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics that provides data on education, health status, social development and other measures of how children are faring. CFK reports from: The Brookings Institution The results of a wide-ranging survey on youth and religion were released today. The report, "OMG! How Generation Y is Redefining Faith in the iPod Era," compares and contrasts the religious identities of 18- to 25-year-old Catholics, Protestants, Jews and Muslims. The survey was conducted with 1385 total respondents; Muslim, Jewish, Asian, African American and Hispanic youth were oversampled to achieve more accurate results. Event: Conference call to address the mental health needs of children in early education This discussion included three key speakers: Peggy Nikkel, Executive Director of UPLIFT Wyoming, who addressed the general public as she relayed her personal experiences; Mary Beth Bruder, P.H.D of the University of Connecticut School of Medicine; who addressed educators, and Jane Knitzer, Ed.D., of the National Center for Children in Poverty (NCCP) at Columbia University, who addressed policy makers and legislative change.http://www.uconnucedd.org/facbios.html
